Urine alcohol screening using ETG for extended detection after drinking.
The ETG Urine Alcohol Test is a rapid screening test designed to detect ethyl glucuronide (EtG), a direct metabolite of alcohol, in urine at a cut‑off of 1000 ng/mL. Unlike saliva or breath tests that indicate recent alcohol use, ETG testing extends the detection window, identifying alcohol consumption for up to several days after drinking.
The test is suited to professional screening programmes where alcohol abstinence or compliance monitoring is required, including workplace testing, occupational health and rehabilitation settings. Results are available within minutes using a simple dip and read format.

About ETG Alcohol Testing
Ethyl glucuronide (EtG) is a stable, water‑soluble metabolite of ethanol formed after alcohol consumption. Unlike ethanol itself, which clears rapidly from the body, ETG remains detectable in urine for several days, making it a preferred marker for abstinence and compliance monitoring programmes. ETG testing does not measure impairment but provides evidence of recent alcohol exposure beyond the window of breath or saliva tests.
What does the ETG Urine Alcohol Test detect?
It detects ethyl glucuronide (EtG), a direct metabolite formed when the body processes alcohol.
Why use ETG instead of a breath or saliva test?
ETG offers a much longer detection window, identifying alcohol use up to 2–5 days after consumption, depending on intake and individual metabolism.
What does the 1000 ng/mL cut‑off mean?
This cut‑off is designed to reduce the likelihood of positives from incidental exposure such as hand sanitisers or mouthwash.
Who typically uses ETG urine testing?
ETG urine tests are commonly used in workplace programmes, rehabilitation services, monitoring agreements and clinical alcohol compliance testing.
Does a positive ETG test indicate intoxication?
No. ETG indicates prior alcohol consumption, not impairment or current intoxication.
Should positive results be confirmed?
Yes. As with all screening tests, non‑negative results should be confirmed by laboratory analysis where required.
