Rapid stool test for the qualitative detection of faecal occult blood.
The Faecal Occult Blood (FOB) Rapid Test Cassette is a qualitative lateral flow immunoassay for the detection of human haemoglobin in faecal specimens. The presence of occult blood in stool may indicate gastrointestinal bleeding associated with conditions such as colorectal cancer, polyps or ulcers.
The test delivers fast results at the point of care and does not require dietary restrictions, making it suitable for routine screening and early clinical assessment in professional healthcare settings.

About Faecal Occult Blood (FOB)
Faecal occult blood testing is widely used as an initial screening tool to identify gastrointestinal bleeding that may be associated with colorectal cancer or other gastrointestinal conditions. Early detection supports timely referral and further diagnostic investigation. In the early stages, gastrointestinal problems such as colon cancer, ulcers, polyps, colitis, diverticulitis, and fissures may not show any visible symptoms, only occult blood.
What does the Faecal Occult Blood test detect?
The test detects hidden (occult) human blood in faecal (stool) samples. Occult blood is not visible to the naked eye but may indicate gastrointestinal bleeding associated with conditions such as colorectal cancer, adenomas, polyps or inflammatory bowel disease.
How is faecal occult blood used in clinical practice?
Faecal occult blood testing is widely used as an initial screening tool within colorectal cancer and gastrointestinal assessment pathways. It helps identify individuals who may require further diagnostic investigation, such as colonoscopy.
Is a positive FOB result diagnostic of cancer?
No. A positive result indicates the presence of blood in the stool but does not diagnose cancer. Gastrointestinal bleeding can have multiple causes, and all positive results should be followed up with appropriate clinical evaluation and diagnostic procedures.
Are dietary or medication restrictions required before testing?
No dietary restrictions are required when using this immunochemical FOB test. The assay is specific to human haemoglobin, reducing interference from food-derived blood or dietary components.
What type of sample is required for the test?
The test requires a stool sample, collected using the supplied specimen collection device and mixed with extraction buffer prior to testing.
Who is this test intended for?
The Faecal Occult Blood Rapid Test Cassette is intended for professional use only in healthcare and screening settings. It should be used as part of a broader clinical assessment pathway.
